Such a Sadness

Image Through my budding adventure into the study of economics I have experienced something completely unforeseen and totally unexpected. Somewhere along the road of my readings and thoughtful reflections, the most pronounced effect my self education has rendered in me is a sense of complete sadness.

Where is it exactly that everything went so wrong? How can such a terrible beast exist, without general knowledge of the public being aroused? The nature of our world wide financial system, specifically the particular operations of the banking institutions, is not a simple concept. A certain amount of intellectual force must be applied to comprehend its true methods and functions.

Maybe it is this intelecual dificutly that keeps the populace at large in the dark. From morning to evening we are encouraged by television, media, and even most forms of interpersonal communication to aspire to the simple. Can this be why inflation is so misunderstood?

Am I wrong? Am I mistaken when I see the general populace, the middle class if you will, being decimated (if only the attack were that benevolent) in their financial lives.

It is not simply that way things are that a family must have two primary bread earners today, when only a single was required 30 years ago. Why do my friends not examine this? Why does this mean nothing?

I often hear the official reports of economic prosperity, the raging market, personal income at all time highs. I examine the raw data the best I can. Something is wrong.

We are being impoverished as a nation. Why? I don't understand. Who will teach me?

I have such sadness...
